Terms of Use

Candelo: Lux & Light Meter · Aplogon · Effective 17 October 2026

Using Candelo

Candelo is provided by Aplogon, an independent app developer based in Sri Lanka. It measures light with your phone's light sensor or camera, shows it in lux and foot-candles, records light logs, and with Candelo Pro estimates plant light and photo exposure. By using the app you agree to these terms. You must be at least 16 years old to use Candelo.

Readings are estimates

A phone's light sensor is made to set screen brightness, not to measure light. Sensors differ from phone to phone, read light from some directions better than others, and some stop at a few thousand lux; the camera estimate depends on your camera and on the paper or surface you meter. Plant light (PPFD and daily light integral) and exposure values are worked out from these readings with general conversion factors, so they are estimates too, and the plant targets are typical ranges from horticultural guides, not advice for a particular plant. Calibrating against a meter you trust brings readings closer, but Candelo is not a certified or calibrated measuring instrument. Do not rely on it for safety, health, workplace, building, legal or other compliance requirements, or where an inaccurate reading could cause harm or loss; use a calibrated instrument for those.

Your data

Your readings, logs and plants stay on your device (see the Privacy Policy). We never have a copy, so we cannot recover lost logs for you; Candelo Pro includes CSV export so you can keep your own copy. Deleting logs or plants, or uninstalling Candelo, cannot be undone.

The camera

When you choose a camera feature, Candelo shows the camera's picture on your screen and reads the exposure it chooses. Don't point the camera at the sun or other very bright light for long, and take care of your surroundings while metering.

Liability

Candelo is provided “as is”. We work hard to make readings and estimates useful, but we can't guarantee that any reading, estimate, suggested exposure or plant verdict is accurate on every phone or in every light. To the extent the law allows, Aplogon is not liable for decisions made on Candelo's readings, for harm to plants, photographs or property, for lost data, or for losses arising from use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law.
